Coronavirus | How To Protect Yourself !



As the world grapples with the coronavirus (also known as COVID-19), the ongoing spread of this virus has become one of the biggest threats to the global economy and financial markets. This disease as we all know initiated identified in 2019 in Wuhan, China and has since spread globally. This resulting in it being declared a pandemic and a matter of public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization (WHO). This infection usually spreads from one individual to another via respiratory droplets produced during coughing and sneezing


The common symptoms of this virus include a running nose, fever, cough, and shortness of breath. All this may also be accompanied by muscle pain, sputum production, and sore throat. While the majority of cases can be healed but some may even progress to severe pneumonia and multi-organ failure. COVID-19 affects the lungs the most.

How to protect yourself from coronavirus

The best way to prevent being infected by the coronavirus is to avoid being exposed to this virus. There is currently no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment available to prevent coronavirus disease. But by practising the following, we can reduce our risk of being exposed to the coronavirus:

1. Wash your hands frequently:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food. It is further advised to use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol. But that too only when soap and water are not readily available.

2. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth:

Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses from almost anywhere. Be it doorknobs, tables, chairs or any other surface, once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth from where the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

3.Cover cough and sneezes:

It is a must to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. In case you use a tissue, then properly dispose of the used tissues in the trash. In case you sneeze or cough in your hand or elbow then immediately wash your hands with soap and water.

4. Maintain social distancing:

Try to avoid close contact (recommended about 6 feet) with anyone who is sick or has the symptoms. Avoid large events and mass gatherings, as they may be the breeding grounds for this virus. But if you do need to leave the house, follow the basic preventive measures.

5. Boost your immune system:

Your body is better able to fight off illness when your immune system is really bustling. Avoid eating raw and uncooked or undercooked meat or animal organs. Also, stay hydrated, minimize overly processed foods and make sure to eat enough nutrients.

6. Wear a facemask

If you are sick: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people (e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office. If you are not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes trouble breathing), then you should do your best to cover your coughs and sneezes, and people who are caring for you should wear a facemask if they enter your room.

If you are NOT sick: You do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for someone who is sick (and they are not able to wear a facemask).

7.Clean and disinfect surfaces:

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, chairs, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, etc.

If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.


Most people who become infected might experience mild illness and recover soon, but it can be more severe for others. No matter which group you fall into, everyone has a responsibility to limit the spread to other people Take care of your health and protect others by doing the above stated.
